Disaster Assistance now available in New York State

ALBANY, NY –New Yorkers recovering from the impact of Hurricane Sandy in nine counties can now register for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The major federal disaster declaration, signed by President Obama Oct. 30, offers Individual Assistance in the counties of Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester. Residents from these counties are eligible to register.

Second NY-TERT contingent cleared for deployment

NY-TERT is deploying a second contingent of TERT personnel to relieve the Monroe and Onondaga teams already in Suffolk County. The next group will include TERT personnel from Broome County (4), Lewis County (2), and Yates County (2). All will depart for Suffolk County on Thursday November 8th. Monroe and Onondaga crews will more than likely depart the morning of Friday November 9th. NY counties not already on the deployable list who wish to make personnel available for deployment, please contact the New York State Deputy TERT Coordinator D. Jeremy DeMar by phone at 585.749.7240 or by e-mail at ddemar@monroecounty.gov

NY-TERT Update for Suffolk County

Waiting to hear back from Suffolk County Communications to find out whether they'll be needing to extend the NY-TERT deployment for another week. We currently have three NY-TERT counties confirmed and on "deployment standby" awaiting the order to depart. Monroe and Onondaga crews should be coming back the morning of Friday the 9th. Relief crews will be heading out the afternoon of Thursday the 8th if the deployment extension is requested. The Nor'easter continues to move toward the eastern seaboard.

Additional NY-TERT support still needed

Forwarded request from NYS TERT Coordinator Merklinger this morning; if you're receiving this a second time, it means you're on more than one e-mail distribution list relating to NY-TERT

To keep all of you in the loop we still have 8 people at Suffolk. We have 4 from Monroe and 4 from Onondaga. We are making arrangements for relief crews for Thursday or Friday this week depending on the next sto...
rm. At least some of those reliefs will be from Broome they want to give back for the help they have received. Note the area is supposed to get another rain and wind storm this week which could impact things again. I have enough availability to keep up reliefs for 3-4 weeks unless we get more requests for other counties. They did move some of the current staff out to fire island yesterday to help out there. Current availability we have is as follows:

Allegany-2
Monroe-8
Seneca-2
Lewis-2
Niagara-4
Broome-5
Yates-2

If any of you can possibly provide additional resources please get that information to myself and Jeremy Demar from my office. He is also sending e-mails to his TERT list from his contacting the counties so I apologize if you get this twice but we want to cover all our bases. I am in court today from 1000-1200 but in the office most of the rest of the day. Thx Klinger

Monroe & Onondaga 911 deploy on TERT response

ROCHESTER, NY - At 17:00 this evening, (4) Dispatchers from Monroe County and (4) Dispatchers from Onondaga County deployed on a TERT response to Suffolk Fire & EMS Communications in Yaphank, NY. Ironically, a TERT Deployment Awareness Class being given at the Monroe County Emergency Communications Department in Rochester was just ending as the request for assistance came in. The initial deploymen...
t duration is slated for roughly one week, give or take a day. It's entirely possible additional deployment requests will come in from the impacted area, due to the devastation created by Hurricane Sandy. More to follow as information becomes available. ------ submitted by D. Jeremy DeMar, RPL, ENP - New York State Deputy TERT Coordinator
